Altus technology helps Petrobras reach production record in 2020

14 Jan 2021

Even with a challenging scenario resulting from the changes brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, Petrobras continues to reach new historical records for oil and natural gas production. In 2020, the company achieved a total annual production of 2.28 million barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 2.84 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). The previous records occurred in 2015 and had been 2.23 million bpd of oil and 2.79 million boed.

During the period, pre-salt production reached a total of 1.86 million boed, which represents 66% of Petrobras` overall result. Present in several of the company`s Exploration & Production ventures, Altus technology is directly linked to this high level of performance. The products developed by our R&D team and the systems integration solutions implemented by our Engineering team are responsible for the control and supervision of systems that are vital to the operation of important FPSOs installed in the region, such as the P-70 platform, which recently had its process of production started in the shared deposit of Atapu, eastern portion of the Santos Pre-salt Basin, close to Búzios field.

In addition to highlighting the pride in helping to write more of this chapter in the history of the national O&G industry, Altus congratulates Petrobras and all their staff and partners for this memorable result!

Altus technology in the pre-salt layer

In last July, the Pre-salt already accounted for almost 70% of the national oil production, according to the information released by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). At the time, P-66 and P-69, two of the automated units with Altus products and engineering intelligence, were already among the Top 10 most productive platforms in the period. In addition to these two units and the already mentioned P-70, Altus technology is also responsible for controlling the Hull and Top-side systems of three other FPSOs that operate in the Pre-salt: P-58, P-67 and P-68 . Together, these units are responsible for producing more than 246,100 barrels of oil and 7.2 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Some figures about Altus and the O&G market

Five of the 20 most productive platforms in the country use Altus technology.

34% of all oil explored in the Pre-salt was produced with Altus technology (index for 2019).

By 2025, Altus technology will be present in 25% of the units and 1/3 of the FPSOs in operation in Brazil, which represents 5% of the global FPSO market.
