Urucu-Manaus Gas Pipeline

A project at the heart of the Amazon rainforest

Development and implementation of automation, instrumentation, electrical, telecommunications and logistics systems for Petrobras' Urucu-Manaus Gas Pipeline.

With a length of 662 km and the capacity to transport up to 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, the pipeline represents a significant advancement for Brazil’s energy matrix and a major environmental benefit for the country, promoting operational efficiency, safe gas transport, and reduced environmental impact.

The use of natural gas as an energy source in place of diesel contributes to reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions into the atmosphere, reinforcing the project’s role as a positive environmental milestone for the country. Altus’s involvement in this undertaking reaffirms our expertise in large-scale energy infrastructure projects, delivering highly reliable domestic technology for major challenges.

Clean Energy and Operational Safety

The solution delivered by Altus specialists involved the design and development of the complete SCADA system, as well as its integration with the 24 distributed control stations along the 662 km Urucu–Manaus pipeline.

Each of these stations was equipped with high-performance, high-availability programmable controllers developed and manufactured by Altus itself, ensuring robustness, reliability, and safety for field operations.

Altus’ team of experts developed and delivered the SCADA system, integrating it with 24 control stations along the pipeline. Each station is equipped with high-performance, high-availability programmable controllers from Altus. To further enhance control and communication, all PLCs are interconnected via fiber optics, communicating with Transpetro’s Central Operations Control via satellite.

This automation and telecommunications infrastructure delivered by Altus reinforces our ability to provide complete, integrated solutions for large-scale energy infrastructure projects, using domestic technology and maintaining a high standard of quality.

Equipamentos e serviços fornecidos

Services and equipment provided with the

The solution delivered by Altus includes the following equipment and services:

Licenses and development services for the Supervisory and Control System
Specification and configuration of equipment and software
Development of controller logic
Integration with field instrumentation
Commissioning and assisted operation
Training in system operation and maintenance

Sistema supervisão para controle remoto da operação

Remote Monitoring for Operational Control

The Supervision and Control System runs on a dedicated server with Elipse E3 Supervision Software in stand-alone mode. Known as the EGDA (Asset Management Station), the server also hosts a Microsoft SQL database.

This system allows for comprehensive diagnostics of each station, covering all Altus hardware. It also monitors key alarms and faults, ensuring the smooth operation of programmable controllers and field communication systems.

Gestão de ativos para monitoração de instrumentos de campo

Asset Management for Field Instrument Monitoring

The asset management system is housed on the same machine as the supervision system. After configuring the PROFIBUS networks and implementing the control architecture at each station, the system can monitor HART instrumentation installed along the pipeline. With this setup in place, the asset management station now provides:
- Online testing
- Deviation alerts, such as supply pressure (utilities) and instrument electronics health
- Valve position graphs
- Instrument status updates
- Calibration checks and calibrated ranges for instruments
- Ranges calibrados nos instrumentos
- Performance metrics
- Valve signature tracking and real-time readings values
